The Frost

One of my favorite things about winter in Michigan was the snow. Waking up to a fresh blanket of snow brought me such joy! I never missed a chance to go out and play in it. The last few years we were in Michigan, we even had an ice rink in the back yard so I could skate. Bedazzled with holiday lights and frozen colored balls, I’d spend hours out there, skating.

While we don’t have snow in The Pacific Northwest at sea level, (which is where I live now), occasionally old man winter will gift us with some amazing frost and last week, he paid us a visit.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I still love a fresh blanket of snow and it takes some creative self-talk to get me hyped up about frost, but I’m working on it.

Anyway, just after sunrise on a crisp winter morning, I took my camera and my macro lens out for a “Frost Walk”. It was a slow, deliberate walk I took to really look at my surroundings and find some magic.

Boy, did I find some magic! My favorite images of this collection are the ones that contains the sparkles. I did not add those in post. As the sun began to rise, the sparkles appeared and, as I was looking through the view finder in my camera, I actually gasped.

Within an hour of the sun rising, the frost was gone.

Whether or not one of the images in this series will be included in my post card club remains to be seen. I guess you’ll have to join the club to find out.
